Welcome!

This is the portal for current and prospective students interested in not merely learning, but exploring and discovering the wonders of the world through the natural and medical sciences!

After a decade of working as a surgeon I decided to dedicate myself to preventing the suffering caused by lifestyle-related chronic disease.  I do this as a lifestyle medicine health coach, speaker and educator.  Choosing to leave my beloved career in surgery wasn't easy but one of the great benefits is getting more time and flexibility to teach!

Over the years I have had the pleasure of working with a wide variety of students, from gifted and highly motivated high school students to pre-health (pre-med, pre-nursing, pre-dental), nursing, Harvard medical students, surgical residents, experienced doctors, to company presidents, CEO's and intellectually curious adults of all ages.

If you love to learn, then I want to teach you.

Given that I split my time between my two passions of health coaching and teaching, I only work with a very small and select number of highly-motivated students each semester (year-round, including summers). This small teacher-student ratio allows me to get to know each of my students, develop a unique rapport, and this usually leads to months and years of fruitful and rewarding collaboration and great academic accomplishments.

If you would like to work with me then contact me for a Complimentary 15-minute Phone Consultation to discuss your particular needs (Click on the button below and please select "ELITE Academy" as a Subject).

Thank you for visiting and I look forward to hearing from you!

Honors Biology: The Science of Life

This course is two terms:

The Fall term is a fast-paced survey covering the scientific method, the study of life, the chemistry of life, ecology, cells, genetics, evolutionary biology, and plant biology.

The Spring term is a introduction of the human body presented in the form of practical anatomy, health, physiology, nutrition, exercise science and discussion of all the body systems, as well as some of the more common and illustrative diseases.
Students will:

  • Apply critical thinking skills and the scientific method to solve challenges in labs and other activities.
  • Use and develop their written and verbal communication skills (including preparing oral presentations, public speaking and debating skills).
  • Explore their genetic lineage to assess their specific familial health risks and what lifestyle choices they can make to reduce these risks.
  • Participate in a preserved specimen dissection.
  • Learn practical aspects of health and disease, including sleep, hydration, nutrition, exercise, and mental health.
This course has limited enrollment and is suitable for curious and motivated students 13 years and older.

To Live & Thrive: The Science of Health & Wellness

This is a two-term, fast-paced, highly-practical, inter-disciplinary workshop-style course on the factors that optimize the function of the human body and mind.

Students will learn applied biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy, physiology, psychology, neuroscience, microbiology, evolutionary biology, and behavior modification, among many others.

They will do this by exploring the practical sciences of sleep, hydration, nutrition (food science, label reading, cooking principles, meal planning, etc), physical activity and exercise, mental health, life-school balance, meditation, mindfulness and the value of having a supportive family & social network and a purpose that is greater than oneself.  We will explore the links between our own health and that of the environment, as well as the origin of the most common lifestyle-related chronic diseases (such as diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, heart disease, stroke, and cancer).
Students will:

  • Use and develop their written and verbal communication skills (including public speaking and debating skills).
  • Apply critical thinking skills and the scientific method to solve real-life challenges.
  • Explore their personal genetic lineage to assess their specific familial health risks and what lifestyle choices they can make to reduce these risks.
  • Track their own lifestyle habits and examine the impact that their choices have on their own physical and mental health.
  • Develop the necessary healthy skepticism to become informed consumers capable of assessing health claims of food products, diets, and health services.
